Climate Change Science (Hurumanu)
In Science we have been learning about climate change here is my work
Aim: To look at the causes of climate change and how to prevent it.
Aim: To look at the causes of climate change and how to prevent it.
As you watch the video answer these questions:
What is our greatest threat in thousands of years?
How do we see climate change affecting the globe?
- Floods
- Strong Winds
- Big waves
- Greater heat waves
What is needed to change history?
Stop any human activities that are causing climate change happen
Is climate change a man made disaster?
yes
Dramatic action must be made in the next 10 years to change it?
10 ( a decade )
Why is our climate changing?
our world is getting hotter
What is causing the warming trend of the climate?
Human activities using and of fossil fuels
What is the main problem?
People are using to much fossil fuels
What are examples of these?
coal,gas and oil
Burning fossil fuels releases what gas?
Carbon dioxide
How much hotter now is our world?
1 degrees hotter then prehistoric times
What do we call this global warming?
Climate Change
How is this affecting creatures / animals like bats?
bats are dead because of the heat
What percentage of species are near extinction?
50% of bats could go extinct
How could this effect the world ecosystems?
It would get to hot for all the animals and they could die or go extinct
What global change was seen and recording breaking last year?
more then half the word could see record breaking heats by 2100
How is climate change affecting our weather systems?
1. Antarctica
2. Australia
3. Amazon Jungle
What is another effect of climate change?
Earths ice is melting
What will happen if the ice melts in Antarctica and the Arctic?
How does this affect people?
they could get heatstroke and even die
What other things affect oceans change?
The ocean is expand because 90% of the heat is kept in the ocean
What does to much heat do to coral?
it can kill coral
Why did some industries not want to stop burning fossil fuels?
Stop at 23.39
Investigation
You can decide on how you would like to do this investigation. Your presentation could be on the blog, slides, or Powerpoint.
Write a definition, upload an image and list where these fossil fuels are mined.
- Coal
- Natural Gas
Write a paragraph and upload an image about each of these renewable energy.
- Solar power is trapping heat in and then turning it into power. Spain and Germany use solar power the most. Germany has installed thousands of solar panels in there country. they have installed over 32,00 solar panels. So good and it is sustainable.
- Wind, wind turbines spin and create energy. Did you know that the french have used a capacity of over 10,300 megawatts. An then even Canada then the united kingdom by only a little bit. there are 8 countries that produce the most wind power.
- Waves
- Hydro Canada has the most hydro energy. Did you know that NZ uses hydro energy as well. we use it because we don't get enough sun and it is not all ways windy. You build a hydro dam to hold the water then you spin it around to make electricity.with hydro power it is nothing is burned so it makes minimum pollution.
Write a 6 sentence reflection about what you have learnt about Climate Change and how it is going to affect us.
something that I have learnt
Global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment. Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner.Effects that scientists had predicted in the past would result from global climate change are now occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves.

Quentin Blake
This session in art we have been learning about Quentin Blake and what stories he has Illustrated we had to find 5 facts about him and what he has done like for example nah you can just look at the slide.

Conservation Science
WATCH THIS VIDEO AND COMPLETE THE INVESTIGATION.
THE BIG PICTURE (Video Link)
- What animals keep our jackets warm?
- Ducks, Sheep and more
- What animal makes our boots waterproof?
- Ducks feathers and leather
- Where does the water in our rivers come from?
- Melting snow
- Why do we need healthy rivers?
- So we can drink the water and stay hydrated and healthy and catch healthy fish to eat
- What are some of the good things about mosquitoes?
- they clean out the water and feed the fish
- Why are bees dying?
- because of predators, pesticide and a lot more reasons
- What do bugs do to our leaves
- they pollinate the leaves
- Reduce (Use less of something)
- Reuse (use something again)
- Recycle (put things in the right bin)
- How much dung would we be in if there were no dung de- composers?
- there would be up to 7 feet
- Who runs this planet?
- Nature and all nof species the co- operate and help each other
