The Science Roadshow

Today was the day, The day of the science roadshow the presenters names where Shane and Anne.
The science roadshow is when their are a couple people that like introduce them-self and then they do experiments with different things like heat and ice also how people breath my favourite part was when they let us out to try the different experiments my favourite experiment was when we had to get spun then put our arms out to slow down and bring them back in to go fast.

Athletics

This Week at Athletics it was at Nga Puna Wai we went to athletics I went for 100m run and 4 by 100m relay My 100m sprint was at 9:30 am and I thought my Relay was at 10:30 am but it was actually  at 1:30 pm.

For my 100m sprint I came 4th out of 6 so that was not very good I think my time was 13.49 or 13.59 seconds And for my relay heat we came 1st out of 7 but in the relay finals we came 6th out of 7 so the final was not very good.  

Passion Projects

our passion project is a family day out  so all the adults and kids can come and have fun
So far we have asked Mr Rogers if we could use the field and also we have made a poster and we are going to make some invitations
This helps because this is something that is our passion
Our next step is to figure out the times and maybe the dates

Our evidence is that we made a poster.

Making Soda In Science

Aim: Our aim was to make a fizzy drink.

Method: Cup,Spoon,Citric/Tartaric acid, Baking Soda, Raro, Water.

we put a teaspoon of citric acid and a teaspoon of baking soda and two teaspoon raro and mixed
rapidly then we put water in it and it bubbled up.

Results: when you added the water it bubbled up and tasted like moon cake aka yuck

conclusion: it tasted like salt and bitter because of the baking soda also we added to much citrus acid as well

fact: an citrus acid is a acid and baking soda is a base

My Jelly KiwiFruit Science

Today In science we have learnt about the word enzyme and what it does in food
a substance produced by a living organism which acts as a catalyst to bring about a specific biochemical reaction.
What is a enzyme in kiwiFruit.
It could stop the jelly from setting it has the similar enzymes in your stomach and also it is in your mouth it breaks thing down that are made  out proteins

Chromatography Science

The First thing we did for this science experiment we needed to get the safety gear needed ( which was really nothing) I thought that the whole paper would turn the colour.
Scientist use chromatography to take away the colour from somethings
some of the things that we used were Ethanol, Acetone and C.solvent
First we got a little test thing then  we picked our chemicals the first one we picked was the acetone it did not do much it just spread the colour
Ethanol spread the yellow just a little bit.

The reason the chemicals changed the paper to spread the colour was because of the chemicals and acid spread the colours well at least I think that is why.

Experiment 2: Red Cabbage Indicator

When we were doing the experiment the aim was to get the cabbage juice to make an indicator using house hold items.
We used 100ml of cabbage and 50ml of water then we boiled the cabbage with a Bunsen burner until the the water turned purple then we put it into little test tubes we put different types of house hold items

Then I changed colours depending on what you put in If you put in base it wold turn green or greenish Blue if it turned pink or purple you would have used something like an acid.

For different colours their are different household items

This is my Kete choice activity that I have chosen to do for our business inter prize kete it is about businesses in Christchurch

Hokey Pokey

So far we made hokey pokey and first we needed to learn the safety rules about the Burner and tripod when we made it we had to take turns making the hokey pokey. Some peoples hokey pokey turn runny and sticky and other peoples turned hard and crunchy

My Maths

This week we have been working with Decimals, Percentages and Fractions we have been trying to figure out how to convert them.

Fo Guang Shan Temple Visit

The 22nd of May the year 7 and 8 classes of HHS (Hornby High School) got to go on a trip to the Fo Guang Shan Temple I was a really cool temple. We went to the man talked to us about the 3G4G he told us that it means 3 good deeds and 4 Giving. Then we walk into a room and a lady talked to us about the Buddha after the talk we made a special flower called the lotus flower.
My favourite part in the temple was when we watched a little video on how the Buddha became wise and tried to share all the 3G and 4G with everyone.

Dear future me

In philosophy this term we are making time capsules and we wrote a letter about now and in the future with thing about me like who are our friends, the price of stuff, What we like to do, our favourite sites and stuff, favourite singers movies games and sport.

I can not wait to be reading this in year 13 when I am 17 years old
